Over 55% GU achievers are women

PANJIM: In all 10,670 students were awarded degrees in different faculities during the 32nd Convocation Ceremony of Goa University on Monday. 

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu presided over the convocation ceremony in the presence of Goa Governor and GU Chancellor Satya Pal Malik and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant. 

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Varun Sahani said that in all 10,670 students received degrees, of which 8,569 are graduates, 1,894 post graduates, 130 diplomas and 78 PhDs. “What is most encouraging is that over 55 per cent of the achievers are women,” he said. 

During the ceremony 78 candidates were awarded PhDs and 76 meritorious students received 134 awards including gold medals, prizes and scholarships in various disciplines.

Sahani said that during 2019-20, there are 25 research project currently operational and another 53 project proposals have been submitted for funding to various agencies. 

The University  offers undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and doctoral degrees as well as post graduate diplomas under the various academic faculties of language & literature, social sciences, life sciences & environment, natural sciences, education, performing, fine arts & music, medicine, engineering, law and design and schools of earth, ocean & atmospheric sciences, chemical sciences and Goa Business School.
