MARGAO: Leaking sewage from a broken and overflowing septic tank situated inside the South Goa Police Headquarters has been a cause of concern for school students, parents and pedestrians alike as the water found its way onto the footpath and main road here.
Irate parents and school authorities and even staff at the South Goa Police Headquarters have called upon the authorities concerned to immediatly put an end to the stinking nuisance before it turns into a health hazard.

Parents, citizens and even students have expressed their anger and lashed out at the authorities for turning a Nelson’s eye to the problem.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, O Heraldo had highlighted the issue after which flow of sewage water on the footpath was stopped.
However, the septic tank inside the police headquarters has started to overflow again thereby creating a public nuisance.
On Friday, few parents placed barricades on the footpath so that students would avoid wading through the sewage water. The stink however still inconvenienced parents, students and even the public who had to breathe foul sewage odour for no fault of theirs.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Alex Rodrigues, one of the parents, expressed frustration and urged the authorities to show some seriousness inorder to prevent health hazards.
“One cannot stand at the site due to the unbearable stink. The authorities must keep in mind that hundreds of students and their parents use the footpath almost everday. By now the authorities should have resolved the issue, but they havent “, he stated.
Agreeing to the same, Rohan Naik, citizen of Margao demanded that strict action be taken against those responsible for creating health hazards.
“I call upon the Goa State Pollution Control Board, the Education and Health Department to take serious note of the mess and initiate action against those responsible,” he demanded.
Reliable sources from the police department state that the issue was brought to the notice of the PWD a couple of days ago but neither officials nor labourers from the PWD visited the South Goa Police Headquarters to plug the sewage seepage.
