CURCHOREM: Commuters in Curchorem are apprehensive while moving on Curchorem roads as sewerage treatment plant (STP) chambers are overflowing with rain water causing obstruction to traffic and pedestrians.
Locals blamed the contractor for undertaking substandard work as the water overflowed through these chambers even before the STP started its operations. People are worried about what would be the situation after it starts operation.
They accused the authorities for not covering the chambers properly as they are caved in and water is overflowing at many places, posing a risk to people.
Councillor of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar said that haphazard work is the reason behind water overflowing.
“What was the hurry when the work of sewage treatment plant has not even started?
They should have taken ward-wise work and after completing all the work they should have started work in another ward. But instead, the roads are dug everywhere under the municipal areas and made unmotorable as most of the chambers in the areas are caved in. The manhole covers too are protruding above the roads surface causing risk to motorists.
When asked the reason why chambers of the STP line are overflowing, Quepem PWD (Roads) Assistant Engineer Rohan Dessai said that officials from the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Limited (SIDCGL) will be in a better position to explain it.
