Overgrown bushes pose threat to motorists, commuters in Fatorda

MARGAO: Claiming that overgrown bushes on both the sides of the national highway are proving to be a hindrance to the public and commuters, citizens of Fatorda demanded that Margao Municipal Council clear the footpaths immediately. Speaking to reporters, citizens have expressed anger and questioned the civic body for being negligent on the issue.

It has been witnessed that the National Highway, from Old Market Circle to Margao Kadamba Bus stand, besides some of the internal roads in Fatorda are covered with overgrown bushes from all sides thus posing problems to commuters.

Milagres Fernandes, a concerned citizen of Fatorda, has emphasized the urgent need for attention from the civic body due to the extremely dire situations in the area.

He pointed out that pedestrians are forced to walk on

the road because the footpaths are obstructed by overgrown bushes.

Additionally, he highlighted a critical safety concern, as the visibility of oncoming vehicles heading toward the city is compromised due to the dense bushes. His statement

reinforces the seriousness of the issue and underscores the importance of prompt action by the authorities to address the problem on the national highway and internal roads in Fatorda.

He further appealed to the civic body and the Chairperson of Margao Municipality to deploy labourers to clear the footpath immediately.

Milagres Fernandes, expressing his concern for pedestrian safety, has raised a valid question about the civic body’s apparent lack of interest in addressing the issues faced by the Fatorda constituency. He is particularly worried about the increased risk of accidents as pedestrians are forced to walk on the roads due to the obstructed footpaths. This question serves as a call for accountability and highlights the need for the civic body to prioritize the well-being and safety of residents in the Fatorda constituency by taking proactive measures to address the current problems with the footpaths and bushes on the roads.

Rahim Shaikh, another concerned citizen, has drawn attention to the challenges faced by people on the road leading to the wholesale fish market, which is also affected by overgrown bushes.

He mentioned that stray dogs often emerge from the bushes and run onto the roads, leading to accidents.
