Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Luizinho Faleiro on Friday said that overseas Goans have been demanding dual citizenship and have requested him to impress upon the Goa government the need for dual citizenship for Goans holding Portuguese passports.
Faleiro said that the NRI cell of the GPCC with members from various nations has placed a strong demand for dual citizenship before the Goa government. Faleiro said the meeting was recently held in Qatar for the Gulf region in which all the committee members of the NRI cell were present.
“I would like them to come back to Goa and contribute to the development and progress of the State. The only hope for Goa is remittances from NRIs,” Faleiro said, claiming that mining, industry and tourism were melting down.
He said tourism is vanishing because Goa cannot depend only on beaches.
