BICHOLIM: Janata Curfew at Bicholim received overwhelming response with all the people staying at home with only pharmacies and petrol pumps operating in the town.
Today the people from Bicholim stayed indoors and all the shops and establishment in the city remained closed. The KTC bus stand had a deserted look with the buses lined up at the bus stand.
On Saturday, there was a mad rush in the market with people buying things well in advance. There was mad rush in the area with people trying to hoard the necessary goods after it was announced that there would be a lockdown.
On Sunday, there was no one seen in the market and everyone downed their shutters. Except petrol pumps and pharmacies there was nothing that was operational. Even petrol pumps and pharmacies had no customers as everyone stayed at home.
Not only the Bicholim town, but also the remote villages observed total but Janata Curfew.
“We support the initiative of the government against coronavirus. Today, the roads in most of the villages were a deserted look and villagers have remained at home” Deelip Desai from Sal said. Even in the mining areas the people supported the initiative.
Based on the directions of the Sanquelim Chief Officer Pravinjay Pandit cleaning and disinfecting of fish market was carried out by Narayan Parab and other municipal council officials.
At 5 pm, the people came out in the balcony and houses and also clapped for those who were working hard to prevent the epidemic. The police team was also making rounds in the city and was monitoring the situation. There was no untoward incident reported in the area.
