Owners of gutted trucks block Mopa airport main gate

Demand discussion with officials over their compensation

MOPA: A tensed situation was witnessed at Mopa Airport site on Friday evening after the owners of transportation trucks, which were gutted in fire on Thursday, blocked the main gate of the airport demanding meeting with company officials for discussion over their compensation. 

The owners of burnt trucks said, “On Thursday after the fire incident, we tried to meet the concerned company officials after taking an appointment. However, the officials did not meet us and rather harassed us by making us to wait for several hours.”

They said, “Being owners of the vehicles, they were not allowed nor the insurance company officials were allowed to enter the site in order to inspect for the insurance claim amount.” 

They also alleged that the cause of fire was not short circuit but the labourers of the company had set the fire due to frustration in delay of their wages. 

“We are the owners of trucks which are gutted in fire but we are not allowed to enter in nor the officials of insurance companies in order to inspect the burnt vehicles and assess the loss amount. How can they expect us to keep quiet,” the truck owners said.

“We blocked the road demanding that the officials meet us and discuss about the compensation. Since they were not ready, we blocked the gate. Now we have scheduled a meeting on Saturday, at 11 am, to discuss the issue and assured to compensate us for the loss,” Shailesh Warak, one of the owners whose vehicle was gutted, said.

They further pointed out that the company delays in providing the wages and gives only when the labourers protest.

They also alleged that the security in-charge of the company Devendra Gad, who is a former police inspector, is harassing the security staff and demanded his replacement.
