PANJIM: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chaired by Congress legislator Pratapsing Rane on Wednesday held is “routine meeting” with no important decisions taken. The committee, attended by members from ruling and opposition, however raised certain queries which were discussed at length.
“It was a routine meeting. No major decisions have been taken. The members had put forth certain queries which were addressed,” Rane informed Herald after the meeting at Goa Legislative Assembly Complex, Porvorim.
Former deputy chief minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised concern over the unsatisfactory online connectivity between the general public and government departments. “We have made a serious view that there is nothing online in Goa. We believe IT has entirely failed. It has become means of communication from department to department rather than people and departments’ interaction,” he said adding, “IT should not become a scam or fraud. We have to get to the bottom of it.”
Last month, Sardesai had asked the PAC to take up for discussion 50 percent reduction of road tax and fix accountability as it would result in loss to the exchequer.
