Pai Tiatrist Remembered on his 63rd Death Anniversary

The legacy of Joao Agostinho Fernandes fondly remembered as Pai Tiatrist and known as the Father of Konkani Tiatr, was honoure on Tuesday on the occasion of his 63rd death anniversary at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

The event saw the tiatrist community coming together to pay homage to Joao Agostinho Fernandes and reflect upon his significant contributions to the world of Tiatr. Eminent tiatr figures, Prince Jacob and John D’Silva, emphasized how Tiatr, the traditional Goan theatre form, has evolved and reached its present stature largely due to the remarkable efforts of Pai Tiatrist. They highlighted the gathering of Tiatr enthusiasts at the Ravindra Bhavan as a testament to the enduring impact of his work.

Expressing his unwavering support for Tiatr artists, Rajendra Talak, the chairperson of Ravindra Bhavan, stated his commitment to nurturing the Tiatr tradition. He encouraged the younger generation to actively participate in Tiatr, thereby upholding and further enriching Goa’s cultural heritage, and making the state proud.

Notably, Goa’s beloved comedic tiatrist, John D’Silva, expressed his gratitude towards Rajendra Talak for his continuous support. D’Silva also celebrated the flourishing state of the Tiatr industry, noting its growing recognition not only within Goa but also on an international scale. He proudly mentioned that Tiatr has gained acclaim in countries such as Germany, Canada, France, the UK, and various Gulf countries.

The commemoration event at Ravindra Bhavan served as a poignant reminder of Pai Tiatrist’s indelible mark on Konkani Tiatr and his enduring influence on the cultural landscape of Goa and beyond.
