Settled in Delhi, Chris (Prasad Harmalkar) and Jenny (Tracila Gonsalves), a childless couple, decide to adopt a child. After completing all the formalities, Sr Superior (Ciena Furtado) hands over the child for adoption. Before parting, Chris donates Rs 1 lakh to the orphanage. An employee at the orphanage, Gonsal (Alfredo Fernandes) takes note of the contribution to keep track of the donor.
For his interference and crooked nature, Gonsal is sacked. With the address of the donor, he goes in search of Chris. After the death of his wife, Chris shoulders the responsibility of bringing up his adopted son, Joel (Flannan Ferrao/Diptesh Harmalkar). But Gonsal plans to build a rift between the father and son.
Will Gonsal succeed in building a barrier between the duo? When Joel is made aware he is adopted, will he succeed in tracing his biological parents? When he fails in his home work, will convictions empower him at the end?
‘Pai To Mhozo’, a family melodrama, has a fine script and sleek direction. Events follow effortlessly, with a touching climax. The issue of adoption and its reflection on members of the family form the highlight.
Initially, for displaying ample energy as a caring and strict guardian and later as the ailing and fragile father, Prasad Harmalkar deserves admiration. Rias, Tracila, Ciena, Arantxa, Kimberly, Keegan, Ranil have extended good support with brief entries. Diptesh Harmalkar has done justice to his role. But Alfredo takes the cake for his negative character.
For some lighter moments, Jakin (Aveena Pereira) and Akin (Mathew D’Souza) jam up and are quite at ease on stage. The former is amazing in her spontaneous dialogues, while the latter’s body language says much.
The stage set design by Freddy Ferrao and managed by Keegan D’Costa, with the kitchen in the background, deserve a special mention. The background music by Rolfan Vaz and light design by Ratnakant Salgaonkar cannot be ignored.
Among the songs, solos by Gigi Rose Fernandes, Ciano King Fernandes and Elvis Mascarenhas, duets by Diptesh Harmalkar, Kimberly D’Mello and Keegan D’Costa and Ciena Furtado and a duet by Oshin and Jovienne Fernandes stand out among the rest.
