Pajifond orphanage premises declared micro-containment zone

State reports 120 new COVID cases on Sunday

MARGAO: South Goa District Collector Ruchika Katyal has declared the entire orphanage premises at Pajifond, Margao as a micro-containment zone, as nearly eight COVID positive cases have been reported within the orphanage. 

As informed by the Collector office, the Rapid Response Team has initiated a plan including health check-ups of sick people in the area.

The above exercise has been started after receiving the report from Urban Health Centre, Margao stating that nearly eight COVID cases have been reported in just few days of time in the mentioned orphanage.  

Task force on Sunday also began the screening of the suspects, besides testing, quarantine and isolation of the COVID patients. It will be a tough job for the task force, as there are nearly a hundred occupants in the orphanage. 

It has been informed that the area of the orphanage shall be restricted and the entire zone will be sealed. 

Meanwhile, Goa recorded 120 new COVID-19 cases from the 4540 samples tested taking the positivity rate to 2.6 per cent on Sunday. Also two more deaths took the total mortality count to 3111.

As per the directorate of health services (DHS) bulletin, a 72-year-old woman from Orlim and 81-year-old man from Pernem succumbed to COVID-19 infection in last 24-hours. 

The woman succumbed at the South Goa District Hospital, Margao and the man died at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.

Also 219 patients recovered during the last 24 hours taking the number of total recoveries to 1,65,067 and the recovery rate stood at 97.25 per cent. The number of active COVID-19 cases were 1562.
