“We have started with vaccination drives just a couple of weeks ago and people have slowly been coming,” said Dr Utkarsh Betodkar State epidemiologist on the disease that hit the village of Palli.
The recent awareness has created a slow but promising increase in the number of people as many villagers have objected to receiving the vaccination.
The trend in the disease, as seen in Karnataka where the disease first originated, is that in January, February and March a higher number of cases are registered while in the following months there are fewer cases.
“It’s seen from past cases in Karnataka that the monsoons tend to register lesser cases than the months of December, January and February. It is because of this reason that we are looking to give as many people the vaccine before the end of the year,” said Betodkar.
