VALPOI: At least 20 villagers from Pali demonstrated in front of water supply department at Valpoi, on Wednesday, demanding regular water supply.
The villagers said that they have been facing water shortage since the last nine days and that they had lodged a complaint with the department on the very first day itself. However, the junior engineer concerned has not restored regular water supply till date forcing them to stage a demonstration in front of the department.
“We are not getting water since the last nine days, therefore, our women are forced to walk long distance to fetch water from the local river; which is unclean,” said Nilesh Paryekar, a villager.
Explaining the reason for water shorter shortage, Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste said that Pali sits at a distance of ten kilometres from the water plant and carrying capacity of the present pipeline is low.
“To ensure regular water supply to Pali, currently we are laying 300 mm diameter pipeline and the work will be completed by this December,” Paste said.
