TIVIM: Residents of Paliem-Pernem criticised the local panchayat on Sunday over the erratic water supply in the village.
Confronting the panchayat at a Gram Sabha, the residents complained that water supply had been erratic in the village even during December and January, and many were left wondering the situation that could confront them during summer.
A resident demanded an explanation for the water shortage, especially since the village has two water storage tanks and a PWD well which provides regular water supply, while water is also supplied from the Chandel water treatment plant.
In his reply, Paliem Sarpanch Prasad Parab claimed that he had contacted the PWD assistant engineer to enquire about the water shortage, who informed him that the water reaches Paliem after Korgao and Arambol. “These villages consume more water and hence, very little water is left for the Paliem village,” said Parab.
Parab informed the residents that he had apprised local MLA and Panchayat Minister Laxmikant Parsekar of the situation and added that the minister had assured to set up an additional water treatment plant at Korgao or Arambol to resolve the water woes in the area.
Other residents voiced concern about accident prone zones in the village and insisted that speed breakers should be installed along these zones to prevent road mishaps.
Parab requested the residents to submit a memorandum to the panchayat in this regard and assured that the panchayat would request authorities concerned to install the speed breakers.
