MARGAO: Seven government officials, including an executive engineer and head clerk were issued memos for indiscipline and neglect of work, after water resource minister Vinod Palyekar paid a surprise visit to the various divisional offices of his department.
The minister ordered to issue memo against executive engineer Kalangutkar, head clerk Nikita Cumbarjuvekar at the divisional office at Gogol and five other employees at Ravanfond office for failing to fulfil the prescribed procedure before they left the office.
Palyekar also observed that the biometric attendance machine installed at the office was deliberately tampered with, as the wires were removed by some staff members to bypass attendance.
However, the machine began functioning after the wires were re-inserted. The minister offered a terse message to errant staff saying that the biometric attendance machine was mandatory and next time if such incident was repeated strict action would be taken.
The minister also visited the Ravanfond office and directed to issue memos against employees that were not at work and had not signed the attendance record for several days.
The executive engineer of the division was also called to explain why an elevator at the Ravanfond office, which was installed two years ago at the cost of over Rs.18 lakhs was never put to use.
Palyekar ordered the official to make sure the lift is operational within eight days. However, it is learnt that the warranty period of the lift has lapsed and breakdown would invite additional cost.
