Panaji police station attack case: DySP Sudesh Naik to be cross examined on Aug 28

MARGAO: The deposition of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudesh Naik in the 2008 Panaji police station attack case concluded on Friday before Judge Irshad Agha at the South Goa District and Sessions Court. The upcoming cross-examination of Dysp Naik is set to commence on August 28.

In a related development, Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate has been exempted from court appearances in the case until September 30, 2023. However, the permanent exemption request by his wife, MLA Jennifer Monserrate, was not granted.

The accused parties in the case include the Monserrate couple, former CCP mayors Tony Rodrigues and Uday Madkaikar, former councillors Data Karapurkar and Naguesh Kariashetty, among others. They are facing charges of attacking and damaging the Panaji Police Station on February 19, 2008. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Mumbai, has charge-sheeted 36 persons under various Sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
