Panch ‘forces’ PWD contractor to abandon St Cruz road repair work

PANJIM: A PWD contractor was allegedly forced to abandon the work of repair of road at St Cruz after a local panch allegedly stopped him from proceeding with the work.

NGO Hope Foundation has filed a formal complaint with the PWD quoting contractor Dinesh Keni that he had to stop the work of repair of a road stretch in Lane No 2 of St Cruz Panchayat area after the panch stopped him from starting the work.

NGO director Inacio Domnick Pereira said the contractor has abandoned the work and shifted the raw material from the place after the panch allegedly stopped him. Instead, Pereira said, the contractor was asked to “do some other work which is not in his estimation, hence contractor told me that the work was cancelled and to speak to the PWD.”

Pereira has demanded that PWD should take immediate action against the panch and police should register FIR against him for stopping the government work.

Pereira has demanded that the PWD should conduct audit of all the works done by the contractors from 2017 till date in St Cruz constituency.

It was in January 2021 that the work of the drains and the roads had begun after the NGO along with locals took to the streets protesting bad roads. However, the present situation has turned bad.
