PONDA: Panch members’ infatuation , for the post of Sarpanch has led to frequent no-confidence motions. This has led to instability in the local bodies as panchas play the game of musical chairs for the post of Sarpanch. This is happening in a number of village panchnayats in Ponda Taluka.

It may be recalled that eight month after Panchayat Election were held in August 2022 the first no confidence motion was faced by Sarpanch of Curti Khandepar with  six out of eleven panch members of Curti Khandepar Panchayat bringing a no confidence motion against Sarpanch Naved Tehsildar last month. The reason which was cited was that Sarpanch was not taking members into confidence while conducting development works.

Similarly the Dubhat Adpoi Agapur Sarpanch was also voted out recently on the same grounds.

However according to locals this is not the real reason for change in Sarpanch. The panchayat members are obsessed with the post of Sarpanch and so with everyone desirous for post the no confidence motion are tabled in most of

panchayats which was also seen during the previous five years.

Sandeep Parkar, a local said in his Curti Khandepar Panchayat said during the last tenure  he saw eight changes of Sarpanch in last 5 years, which was a record of sorts. Now during

this new term, there is already a change in Sarpanch last month.

He blamed the game of musical chair on the greed for power. He said if every six to eight month sarpanch is changed than it would be difficult for them to carry on development work.

For development there is need for a stable panchayat. In eight month time sarpanch doesn’t get time to look at files and day today adminstration. He said currently in Curti Khandepar Panchayat the crematorium issue is not solved. The locals are facing problem

in absence of facilities at

the crematorium.

While another citizen said he is unhappy with instability in Curti Khandepar  Panchayat . He recalled that during the previous five years tenure they have seen almost eight Sarpanch and he fears  history may repeat itself. The locals said  if Panchayat members remains busy in changing sarpanch, the develo- pment work suffers.  Locals enlisted many other problems which need to be solved.
