Chicalim witnessed tense moments on Thursday after the stalls erected by self-help groups near Chicalim Junction were asked to be removed by the panchayat. The panchayat stated that the group did not obtain an NOC from neither the Highway authority, the panchayat or the communidade. The panchayat informed that the Navy has also objected to the stalls.
Although women from the self-help group submitted a letter about the installation of stalls, Panchayat Secretary Amrit Sankhwalkar says he had informed stall owners to wait until their permission is placed before the body meeting on Friday, but they already set up the stalls before final permission.
