MAPUSA: The Director of Panchayat on Friday completed hearing arguments from both panchayat as well as the contractor in the Mopa link road case and kept the matter for final orders on Monday, April 4.
On February 28, the Director of Panchayat Siddhi Halarnkar by an ex-parte order had stayed the stop work order issued by the Warkhand-Nagzar village panchayat to the contractor undertaking construction of the Mopa link road.
The work of construction of link road to the Mopa Greenfield airport is facing stiff opposition from villages of Tulaswadi, Nagzar, Warkhand and Dhargal since the road is going through these villages and forest while destroying their plantation.
Adv Prasad Shahapurkar who is representing the Warkhand-Nagzar village panchayat said, “Written synopsis were submitted to the Director of Panchayat with few points that we wanted to bring to its notice before the final order and requested the director to defer the final order to April 4. The company also countered those points. Our main point was to understand the powers of village panchayat and whether the village panchayat has any authority under the Goa Panchyati Raj Act?” he asked.
Earlier, the director of panchayat had said both the parties that she will deliver her verdict on Friday. But with the village panchayat submitting additional synopsis, the director posted the matter for final orders on Monday.
