PANJIM: After locals complained of an illegal construction of a road in an archaeological site passing through Gawali-Moula without permission, the Curca Bambolim and Talaulim panchayat on Wednesday, following a site inspection, has issued a stop work order.
In the order issued under Section 64 (1) (J) of Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994, sarpanch Roshan T Vernekar has requested the North Goa Collector, Deputy Collector and Mamlatdar-Tiswadi to take strict action as per the law.
The illegality was brought to light by the villagers on Tuesday, after which the sarpanch and panch members went for a site inspection that revealed that a road of almost two kilometers had been constructed and only the final layer of asphalt was remaining.
It was also revealed that this road has been shown in the plan according to Regional Plan (RP) 2021 but had been constructed illegally without licenses and permissions from the panchayat.
Vernekar said, “The road which is almost ready has been constructed on survey numbers 34, 35, 37, and 38 of Gawali-Moula village which comes under our panchayat. We are not aware of who has been constructing this road.”
The panchayat in the stop work has directed to stop all the construction work immediately and produce all relevant documents/permissions obtained. The notice also states that failure to comply with the order, will led to the panchayat initiating strict action under Section 66 of Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994.
