PANJIM: The Excise Department has banned transportation of
liquor bottles within the State boundaries in view of the elections to 186
village panchayats scheduled to be held on Sunday followed by counting on June
13. The State government has also declared dry days during the period when the
voting and counting of votes will be held.
“No liquor will be transported from one place to another
within the State of Goa and three quart bottles of IMFL or foreign liquor other
than beer and six bottles of beer of 650 ml for any person including his
family, three quart bottles of country liquor for any person including his
family will be the maximum quantity of liquor which can be possessed in the State
without permit,” reads a notification issued on Thursday.
The restrictions are imposed during the period from 12-am on
June 10, 2017 till midnight within the Village Panchayat areas where the
election for Village Panchayats are being conducted, from 12-am on June 11,
2017 till midnight and on June 13, 2017 from 8 am till midnight in the entire
State.
Similarly, the government has declared dry days during this
period directing that all licensed premises for the sale and consumption of
liquor in public places located within the Panchayat areas will be closed from
June 10, 2017 till midnight, within the State from 12 am on June 11, 2017 till
midnight and on June 13, 2017 from 8 am till midnight. “The licensed premises having licence for Bar
and Restaurant may be allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only
and the Bar counter will be closed and no liquor will be allowed to be served
on the mentioned days. The owner of the licensed premises having Bar and
Restaurant should also display a board in the premises, stating that no
liquor will be served and that only the
restaurant is open for serving food,” the notification further reads.
