PORVORIM : Minister for Panchayat Mauvin Godinho said that government is contemplating to increase funds upto Rs 3.50 crores to each panchayat towards infrastructure development.
Minister said that under the Deendayal Panchayati Raj Infrastructure Development (Golden jubilee) scheme, 2013, government is currently providing grants upto Rs Two crore towards infrastructure development including construction o panchayat ghars.
“Government is working towards enhancing the amount to Rs 3.50 crores and the proposal is under consideration,” Godinho said replying to a calling attention motion moved by BJP MLA Glenn Ticlo.
Ticlo pointed out the dilapidated condition of some of the panchayat ghars in the state. He said that some of them are even lacking basic amenities like sitting place, toilets and shortage of work space for the staff.
Replying to the issue, Godinho said that out of 191 village panchayats, 179 have their own panchayat ghars of which 134 are in very good conditions. “56 panchayat ghars need repairs and of these 43 are already proposed for revocations and construction of new building under Goa State Infrastructure development corporation and Goa tourism development corporation,” he said.
In addition to this, four panchayat ghars are proposed to be constructured under Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.
