PANJIM: Attributing the delays to the scheduled hotmixing of roads to the pandemic and lockdown in neighbouring States, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said the remaining work will commence after monsoon.
Addressing media persons, he said most pre-monsoon works like trimming of bushes, clearing of drains have been completed although the early onset of monsoon also contributed to the delay in hotmixing of roads.
He said, “Once the lockdown in other States is lifted, contractors will be able to get their supplies.”
On the Mapusa highway issue, Pauskar said he had asked all contractors to clear the service roads to the highways.
Pauskar said, “The work is being carried out by the State government to address the gaps in water supply.”
On the cabinet decisions with regards to overhead tanks, ground water reservoirs, etc, he said, “Presently the State’s population needs 600 MLD but the supply capacity is 530 MLD.”
“To solve this, the State had already begun the process on increasing the size of water plants across Goa including new plants, which will be completed by December or January” he said.
He said, “This will cover the gap of 70 MLD, another 80 to 100 MLD will be added by December 2022, which could cater to Goa’s demand for the next 20 years.”
“Of the Rs 300 crore budgeted for water supply works, over 100 crore have already been sanctioned and the remaining amount will be approved later,” he added.
