PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that a committee under North Goa Collector has been constituted to inquire into the major fire incident reported at Berger Becker Coating Pvt Ltd situated at the Pilerne Industrial Estate.
Sawant said that the Committee will ascertain the cause of fire and also provide recommendations to avoid such incidents in future.
The committee headed by North Goa Collector Mamu Hage also comprises of officials from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Goa Fire and Emergency Services among others.
“I have asked the committee to submit the report as early as possible for further action,” Sawant said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that the Goa State Pollution Control Board is asked to study the area’s ambient air and water quality and submit a report. “The Pollution Board and WRD Department are asked to clean the wells that are affected due to smoke,” he said.
On January 10, a massive fire broke out at a warehouse of Berger Becker Coating Private Limited at the Pilerne Industrial Estate, destroying raw materials, chemical barrels and finished product. Though no casualty was reported, the inferno posed severe health hazard in the surrounding, forcing government to issue health advisory and also evacuated some families to safer places.
