PANJIM: The Justice Dr Eurico Santana da Silva Fee Structure Committee has in its report submitted to the government, recommended 10 to 15% hike in technical and private college fees. According to the government notification issued after accepting the report, the fees are likely to go up by another 10% for each year of the course.

The State Level Fee Structure Committee report also recommended that fees need not be uniform for all three years at the graduate level and also that colleges running same courses need not have the same quantum of fee but this should depend on the infrastructure provided.

“Fees would not be uniform throughout the course duration, but there would be gradual, annual increase, which is moderate, reasonable and acceptable,” the committee stated in its report.

Another of the recommendations was that fee structure even in case of like Institutions (such as engineering colleges) would vary depending on services and facilities provided to students, and need not be uniform.

“Institutions shall strive to develop appropriate infrastructure in order to provide quality technical education to students, and recruit staff as per AICTE norms, and pay AICTE recommended pay scales,” the report states, adding, “Institutions shall implement AICTE Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme, and other Fee Waiver/Scholarship Schemes of Central/State Government.”

The Committee has recommended fees for various private Institutions only for one year i.e. 2012-13 and stated that fee structure for 2013-14 and 2014-15 batches is to be decided later.

The fee recommended for approval in respect of admission to M Pharm course for candidates admitted in year 2012-13 is Rs 2,00,000 per year, and for candidates admitted in year 2011-2012, it is Rs 1,50,000 per year.

However, the committee has also recommended that the institution should offer scholarships ~ a 50% fee waiver, to two admitted students of Goan Origin (whose either Parent/Grandparent was born in Goa) on economic/family income criteria.
