Panel takes cognizance of Curtorim orphaned child’s case

Sources have informed Herald that the Governor has been asked if his office can provide financial support to the ten-year-old child who is living with her grandmother

MARGAO: The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken cognizance of the unfortunate case of the orphaned minor child from Curtorim who lost both her parents in a road accident that occurred in January this year.

The Chairman of the Commission, Peter Borges has met with the family.

“I have also summoned the (Police) Investigating Officer (IO) for an explanation too (regarding the criminal case),” said Borges to Herald.

Maina Curtorim Police has prepared the charge sheet in the case.

“I had visited the family soon after the funeral. I have made a request to the honorable Governor of Goa P S Sreedharan Pillai for some support to her. The Governor’s office had sought a detailed report, which has been prepared. This will be forwarded to the Governor’s office once again,” Borges added.

Sources have informed Herald that the Governor has been asked if his office can provide financial support to the ten-year-old child who is living with her grandmother. Both the deceased parents of the child were working before their lives were taken away in that fatal accident.

Furthermore, another group, the NGO Childline, the 1098 emergency helpline for children, which is supported by the Union Ministry of Women and Child has also got in touch with the family.

Childline was instructed by the State Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to provide a home study report of the girl’s situation. They have completed this study and have submitted it back to the CWC, which comes under the State Government’s Women and Child Department. It is to be noted that Childline deals with children who are vulnerable and are in need of help
