Panic at Curti after leakage of gas pipeline during excavation

PONDA: There was panic among Curti locals after a leakage occurred in a gas pipeline supplying domestic gas to parts of Locals at Ponda was damaged during excavation work for underground power cabling.

According to locals the JCB was involved in excavation work at the roadside for digging trenches for laying underground power cables by the Electricity Department. 

After digging a trench for almost 100 meters, suddenly the underground gas pipeline was damaged due to which the gas started leaking and as it started spreading nearby residential areas the locals shut down doors and windows of houses. 

Following an alert by locals, the Ponda Fire Personnel team reached the spot. Ponda Police also reached the spot. After getting information the Gas Authorities too stopped the supply of gas. Thereafter the gas line was repaired. 

The traffic on this route was halted for some time. The gas supply was also disrupted due to the leakage. In the evening the gas supply resumed, said the locals at Ponda. 

The locals said various pipelines are laid underground including water supply lines of different diameters, gas lines, and sewer lines and now Electricity cable is also coming underground. 

The Locals stressed that the government should create proper utility tunnels or corridors at underground or on surface to avoid risks of untoward incidents, accidents and risk to locals as well workers involved in digging work.
