PANJIM: The Goa Suraksha Manch’s (GSM) unique campaigning idea for the upcoming Panjiim by-election has also led to adding around Rs 1 lakh in the party fund. The party claims its house-to-house campaign has not only garnered support from families but people also donated money.
“People were amazed to know that we were seeking their votes for our candidate Subhash Velingkar and at the same time asking for donation for the party. They were happy that in the present scenario wherein votes are sold in exchange of huge cash we are fundraising for the party as well as seeking their votes for our candidate,” GSM leader Vinay Naik at a press briefing on Sunday.
The party claims that in the last 10 days they have collected around Rs 1 lakh from 1,200-odd houses across 18 booths. “The number is increasing,” he added.
“Almost every house has contributed money. Many have also extended their support to our candidate Velingkar. People are appreciating us,” Mahila GSM president Roshan Samant said. The party leaders maintained that people of all age groups, gender and religious beliefs are supporting them for the upcoming Panjim by-election scheduled barely a week away on May 19. “People have told us that they want a change,” Samant said.
As on Sunday, Naik said they have completed their campaigning across six booths in Ribandar, five in the market area, four booths at St Inez, two booths at Mala and one at Boca da Vaca.
