Panjim-based Dr Kedar Phadte wasn’t raided

HERALD in its Sunday edition in its headline story ‘IT-raids continue, Panjim Doctor’s premise searched’ had said that gold and cash were recovered from a premise owned by city-based Dr Kedar, during raids on Saturday.

Herald clarifies and emphatically states that it went purely by information provided to its reporter by sources in the  IT dept who only stated that Dr Kedar was searched. Herald did not indicate nor was there any intention of  insinuating that the reference was to well-known gynecologist from Panjim Dr Kedar Phadte.
However, Herald does realise that inreferences have been drawn towards Dr Kedar Phadte, inconveniencing the doctor and we regret that very sincerely and aplogise to him.
Dr Phadte told Herald,  “I have in fact been recognised and rewarded by the IT department for being an honest tax payer and have not even received any notice from the IT dept.”
We, however, state that the details of the raids on both days were provided to us by sources in IT and no other outside source.
Meanwhile, we stand by the other details of the raid stories.
Hence, we apologise for the news item that had named Dr Kedar in the copy. The rest of the facts of the story stands.
