PANJIM: The State government will host its annual Carnival festivity from February 22 to 25, this year with the float parade to commence from Panjim.
Officials informed that the decision on the routes and the festival dates were decided in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Tourism Manohar Ajgaonkar on Friday.
After Panjim, the float parade will be shifted to Margao and Quepem on February 23, Vasco and Curchorem on February 24; and Mapusa and Morjim on February 25.
Last week, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) decided to shift Carnival and Shigmo parade to the old route on D B road and 18 June road, respectively, from Miramar where it was held for last two years.
CCP has also decided to make the Carnival event ‘plastic free’. That decision was taken after consulting Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate and considering the hardships faced by the people at the new route.
Meanwhile, at the meeting on Friday, the committee also decided to revise the prize amount by dropping some categories from the prize list.
