PANJIM: Majority of Panjim carnival floats on Saturday sent a strong message to stop ecological and environmental destruction and a need to save trees.
The floats parade held in the capital city depicted the rich cultural heritage of Goa while some focused on the certain aspects such as urging the people to follow traffic protocols, concept of community classroom, say no to drugs, expressing gratitude to the COVID-19 warriors and frontline workers, importance of health and save wildlife to save Goa dominated the floats parade.
As many as 52 floats in different categories participated in the parade, which started from the Divja circle and proceeded up to Campal.
King Momo Emeliano Dias declared his Decree reigning supreme during the next four joyous days.
Passing the message of living with the subjects’ liberty by forgetting the travails of life, King Momo said, ”Be happy, make merry, enjoy and swing at the rhythm and beats of music. Eat drink and make merry but responsibly.”
He urged the people to follow all COVID-19 protocols. Thanking the COVID-19 frontline warriors, health workers and administration volunteers for working tirelessly by risking their life during the pandemic, King Momo wished that peace, joy, fun and frolic prevail throughout Goa during his rein.
“Forget all worries and pressures of modern living, be happy and make others happy,” he said.
Goa’s nightingale Lorna set the stage ablaze with her singing performance.
The Samba Square was decked with a craft station, games centre and an art station for children. A specially created pop-up library, craft-related activities and curated books from Indian publishers were also displayed at the venue.
The carnival floats parade will also be held at Margao on Sunday, Vasco on Monday and at Mapusa and Ponda on Tuesday.
