PANJIM: The Panjim Police have filed their say before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) to the application made by Trajano D’Mello seeking direction to the police to register an FIR and probe alleged scam in the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) based on public statements made by CCP Commissioner and former Mayor.
Panjim PI Nikhil Palekar has submitted before the Court that former CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar till date has not furnished any evidence, which authenticates the evidence of collecting sopo without issuing receipts.
No complaint has been received from the vendors, alleging that they are not being provided with slips, PI Palekar has submitted in his say.
The Panjim PI has submitted further that he had sent a letter to the CCP Commissioner (Clen Madeira) requesting him to provide any misappropriation of funds that has been observed or noticed by the staff engaged in collection of sopo fees in the Panjim market but the police did not receive any response from the Commissioner.
“The complainant has not provided any such evidence which indicates that there is corruption in sopo collection activity,” the PI has pointed out and prayed the Court to dismiss the application with cost.
Trajano had lodged two complaints in May and July this year at the Panjim Police Station stating that there was a scam in sopo collection in the CCP and there were illegal practices in respect of sopo collection in the Panjim market following public statements made by both, Madkaikar and the Commissioner.
In his petition, Trajano is seeking directions to the Police to immediately register FIR and conduct independent, fair and proper investigation of the facts mentioned in his complaints.
