PANJIM: After almost one-and-half months, the Panjim fish market will reopen from Sunday. A total of 55 fish vendors are granted permission to sell fish in the market.
The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Uday Madkaikar, Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues and Police Inspector Sudesh Naik on Saturday conducted inspection of the market area along with local fish vendors.

Fish vendors are given proper space of one metre each to maintain social distancing.
Speaking to media post inspection, Madkaikar said the fish market will reopen from 6 am to 1pm only. “No fish sale will be permitted after 1 pm,” he said adding police and CCP inspectors will be deployed at the market site to ensure that all guidelines are followed.
Madkaikar said the Corporation has not granted permission for cutting of fish to maintain hygiene at the site.
The Mayor urged the people visiting the market to compulsorily wear masks and follow social distancing norm.
Fish market in the city was closed since March 22 when the Janata Curfew was announced. This was followed by extension of curfew by the State government and subsequent national lockdown from March 25.
When asked, Madkaikar said no decision has been taken yet on opening up of main municipal market; even though, local vegetable and fruit vendors are allowed to function along the road near Inox Courtyard.
