PANJIM: As the government allows partial relaxation during the curfew period, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has decided to keep its Municipal market open between 6 am and 11 am only during the lockdown.
However, the Corporation will ensure that only vegetable, fruit vendors and grocery shops along with fish and meat market is open. No other shops will be permitted to function during the said time.
Speaking to HERALD, City Mayor Uday Madkaikar said that market will remain open from 6 am to 11 am on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We will not keep the entire market open. Will allow only vegetable and fruit vendors to operate along with grocery shops. Fish and meat market will also be open No other shops like that of clothing, electronic, or other items will be allowed to open,” he said.
The Mayor added that CCP officials will be on the spot, along with him, to monitor the situation. “I will urge people not to panic and create a crowded situation in the market. Ensure social distancing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mayor along with Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues on Monday held a meeting with heads of religious bodies, within its jurisdiction.
During the meeting, CCP urged religious institutions to request their followers to pray from home rather than visiting temples, churches and mosques till March 31.
“The Heads of religious bodies have agreed to our request,” added Madkaikar.
