PANJIM: Incumbent Mayor Uday Madkaikar and Vasant Agashikar are all set to take oath as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Corporation of The City of Panaji on Thursday.
Madkaikar and Agashikar filed their nominations for the post on Wednesday. Being the only nominations, both were elected unopposed.
Madkaikar will retain the chair for the second term, while Agashikar will replace Pascoal Mascarenhas.
Madkaikar was elected unopposed, even during his first stint.
Both will be administered Oath of Office by Commissioner during special meeting on Thursday. The term of the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor is for a period of one year.
Speaking to media after filing the nomination, Madkaikar thanked Panjim MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate for reposing faith in him for the second term. “The aim of Babush is to ensure that the city is clean,” he said.
Madkaikar said that he will work taking all the councillors, MLA and the stakeholders into confidence.
The new Standing committee will be also nominated on Thursday.
Meanwhile, CCP Budget 2020-21 will be presented during council meeting on March 16. The Budget was supposed to be presented on March 9, was postponed following demand from the councillors owing to pending Mayor election.
