Panjim MLA visited the smart city works in Panjim city and gave an assurance that works will be completed on time amidst the haphazard being done across the city. While the court was told that Smart City pending works would be completed by May 31, the hogwash of these promises is scattered all over Panjim, in the form of dug roads, deadly pits and other assorted injury traps.
On Friday Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate along with IPSCDL MD & CEO Sanjit Rodrigues and other officials conducted a site inspection of the ongoing smart city works in Panjim. During the site inspection, the MLA stated that 90 per cent of the major work is completed and the remaining will be completed during monsoons.
“Work will be completed. Only the manholes were remaining to be completed which will be cleared in the next 4-5 days. We are satisfied with the speed of the work and the way it is going on. Most of the work will be completed by 31st of May which is the deadline. The works that are remaining are of the pavement works which can be done during monsoons also,” said MLA Monserrate with full confidence regarding the works being completed during monsoons.
He further highlighted that important works related to underground cabling, sewerage and pipeline works are completed and lighter works are kept during monsoons to be completed. “During monsoon water logging may occur, so keeping in mind this issue we have cleared all the underground sewerage and pipeline works that will lead to future water logging. As far as 18 June road water clogging may take place during monsoons because we have not touched that part of the road. That road work will be done after the monsoons”
Meanwhile, the monsoon is about to set in and the deadline set by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) for completing the works is expiring in another 24 hours. Despite receiving a deadline by the high court, the works will be still pending till the end of the monsoon. On Tuesday, May 28, the IPSCDL announced the opening of 3 roads in Panjim city but the question is what about other roads? Will there be a full stop to these Smart City works and relieve the people from this misery of development?
