PANJIM: Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate said he is confident that his panel will win all thirty seats at the upcoming Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) elections.
Monserrate who has been going door-to-door with his supporters and candidates said that they had got the opportunity to listen to the grievances of the locals and were able to give a timeframe on when they can address those issues.
He reiterated that development is continuous and said that the people know the plans of his panel as per his vision document that was issued at the time of the last Goa legislative assembly, which he believes is being executed.
St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes has also been seen campaigning for the panel backed by BJP while former Mayor Uday Madkaikar stressed that the erstwhile CCP ruling panel had worked for the people and thus the people would re-elect the panel backed by Monserrate.
He also criticised the work of some opposition councillors and questioned the stance of We Ponjekar’s candidate Surenda Furtado regarding pay parking, pointing out that Furtado never opposed the scheme when he was the corporator. Madkaikar argued that the pay parking scheme had helped decongest traffic in the capital.
BJP Party President Sadandant Shet Tanavade said there was no infighting within the party. This was in view of selection of candidates for the panel backed by BJP. The party has also taken steps to do damage control after certain party leaders had earlier spoken about backing candidates outside this panel on the grounds that elections are not being fought on party lines.
It is to be noted that campaigning for the CCP polls as well as the other municipalities and panchayats except for those halted by the Supreme Court ends on Thursday, March 18 at 5 pm.
