PANJIM: Revenue Minister Atanasio `Babush’ Monserrate on Friday said that the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) building will be redeveloped and measures will be taken to prevent flooding and streamline traffic system in the capital city.
Monserrate held an inter-departmental meeting at the CCP office to hammer out solutions pertaining to long festering issues such as flooding, sewage and traffic faced by the city. He said that the existing CCP building will be demolished and redeveloped. In the meantime the CCP may be shifted to the Old Court building and the Old Secretariat. Also the ongoing construction of a new football stadium at Campal under the Smart City Mission will be ready by next year.
The Revenue Minister said that under the Smart City Mission, various government departments were executing the works. Also many new plans proposed for the capital city were in the pipeline and will be implemented, he added.
When asked about the National Theatre dispute, the CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate said that the CCP will evict the occupant and that there will be no issue for settlement. The CCP in 2007 had terminated the lease agreement with Rao and Company who were operating the cinema theatre since 1933.
Stating that the CCP Commissioner will now hold extra hearing every week and dispose the matter, Mayor Rohit said, “There will be no further settlement. We will be evicting them (occupant) now. We now have powers to evict them.”
He said that since the building is not utilised the same will be put to use for the benefit of the people. “We can offer citizens like extra parking or other facilities and within next six to eight months the issue will be settled,” he added.
