PANJIM: The Panjim Police on Sunday busted a gang of car thieves, solving quite a few cases registered in the jurisdictions of Panjim, Porvorim and Mapusa Police Stations.
The three members of the inter-state gang were arrested and stolen items worth over Rs 15 lakh were recovered from them.
The investigation team claimed to have solved the cases within 24 hours with the arrest of habitual offenders identified as Juber Ahmed (31 years), Jagannath Saroi (46 years) and Pradeep Gurav (27 years). Gurav is from Kolhapur, Maharashtra while Ahmed and Saroi are natives of Uttar Pradesh.
“During the investigation, 16 car stereos of different make, garments, a Hyundai I-10 car and mobile phones were recovered from their possession. They were caught after a hot chase at Belgaum-Karnataka in an overnight operation by the Panjim Town Police Station team,” reads a statement by North Goa SP Shobhit Saxena.
A total of 17 cases registered at Panjim, Porvorim and Mapusa Police Station have been solved.
The team led by DySP Santosh Desai and PI Sudesh Naik was assisted by inputs from Crime Branch, Kolhapur leading to arrest and recovery of the above articles.
