PANJIM: Seven anganwadiworkers, who were agitating at the Azad Maidan, here, from past 23 days demanding revocation of their termination order were detained by the Panjim Police, on Friday.
Union leader Hridaynath Shirodkar informed the media that the PanjimPolice approached the protestors and requested them to withdraw their protest. When the protestors questioned, why they should do so, the police detained the protestors without citing any valid reason.
According to Shirodkar, the anganwadi agitators were detained in order to clear the place (Azad Maidan) for the celebration of the Revolution Day, which is to be celebrated on Saturday.
Shirodkar alleged the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has directed the police officials to detain the agitators so that he will not have to face the anganwadiworkers when he comes to pay the floral tribute to the Martyr’s Memorial, at Azad Maidan on the Revolution Day.
He further alleged that the Chief Minister is scared to face the agitators at Azad Maidan fearing they will disturb the peace of the function.
“In what way these seven workers can disturb the peace of the function when the government itself has destroyed the peace of these seven workers by terminating them from the service and serving injustice to them,” Shirodkar asked.
Meanwhile, the workers refused to sign the bond for their release.
