PANJIM: Of five Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles guarding the State capital, four vehicles are off the road, leaving Panjim police to manage the entire area with just one vehicle which will also go off the road once its tank is emptied of diesel.
Panjim police said that four vehicles are off the road due to shortage of fuel from the supplier. The four vehicles have remained parked since Sunday evening.
When contacted, North Goa Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap said that the vehicles went off the road after the agency refused to give more fuel on credit. He said that bills for two month are pending with the Directorate of Accounts and not with his office.
There are five PCR vehicles in Panjim at different locations which respond on a phone call within minutes to any of the emergency.
It is learnt that one of the petrol pumps from Panjim provides fuel to all five vehicles and Highway Patrol within the jurisdiction of Panjim police. However, due to pending bills they have stopped giving further on credit. Currently only one PCR vehicle is on the road responding to calls made to 100. Sources said that all the PCR vehicle staff have been diverted to other areas wherever required.
