PANJIM: Keeping in mind the efforts of converting Panjim into a Smart City, the town police station has become the first in the State to have a computerised criminal registration system and installing bio-matrix systems in the administrative section to ensure the records are safeguarded.
“The criminal registration system is the application designed to make digital records of criminals arrested at Panjim Police Station. Every arrested person’s records will be available in the system. Bio matrix and web cam will make easy access/reference,” Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar told the media.
Arrangements have also been made to obtain details of digitised fingerprint data from the fingerprint unit of the Forensic Science Laboratory at Verna to update the system. “This system will facilitate instant verification of past record of persons arrested at Panjim PS,” the officer said.
Similarly, the bio-matrix system has been installed in the administrative section that consists of crime, passport/PCC/VCC/caste verification, tenants and servant verification, and summons and warrants. “The administrative section will be regulated and restricted for authorised persons through the bio matrix access control device. The aim is to restrict unauthorised entry of general public in the administration section which causes disturbance to the staff. The CCTV cameras installed across the police station premises will capture every movement,” he said.
The records with other police stations would be shared through paperless method in the next phase as Panjim is the only PS to go digital so far.
Former Panjiim MLA Siddhart Kunkalienkar said this was one of the steps towards the Smart City mission.
