More than 50 per cent students studying in Government Polytechnic, Altinho are failing, the ad hoc Committee on education has observed.
“It is shocking to see the pathetic academic performance of this polytechnic,” the committee chaired by Aldona legislator Dayanand Narvekar has said in its report tabled in the assembly.
‘It is observed that more than 50 per cent of the students are failing. This is not a healthy situation and therefore the government has to take corrective measures to overcome this situation,” the report says.
The committee says that effort should be made to make the atmosphere oriented towards study.
“The teachers should give special attention to weaker students and coach them for better all round performance,” the report says adding “the polytechnic should have better staff, workshops and laboratories should be well-equipped.”
“Modern teaching aids should be available to the teachers to facilitate them in their work. The environment should be made conducive to studies. The committee desires that immediate remedial steps be taken so that (better) results can be seen,” says the report.
