PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa is likely to pronounce next week the verdict on the petitions seeking quashing of the proceedings in the infamous February 19, 2008 Panjim Police Station attack case.
Justice Manish Pitale on November 29 after hearing arguments had reserved his order.
Panjim MLA Babush Monserrate, his wife Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, former CCP Mayor Tony Rodrigues are among 36 accused in the case, which has been pending in the High Court for the last seven years.
Social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues approached the High Court praying to vacate stay of the criminal trial granted by it in December 2014, which he said was contrary to the Supreme Court order that any stay granted by the High Court expires within six months and that unless extension is granted the trial must go ahead.
On the other hand, Additional Sessions Judge, Mapusa Sherin Paul had issued notices to Monserrate couple and the other 35 accused to remain present in Court on December 6 but deferred the trial till the High Court verdict is pronounced.
