Panjim PS attack case: Trial adjourned to February 3

PANJIM: With Mapusa Additional Sessions Judge Sherin Paul down with COVID-19, the trial in the infamous 2008 Panjim police station attack case was on Friday adjourned to February 3.

Panjim MLA Atanasio `Babush’ Monserrate and Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, former CCP Mayor Tony Rodrigues are among 35 accused in the case, which had been pending in the High Court of Bombay at Goa for the last seven years.

High Court of Bombay at Goa Justice Manish Pitale has already directed that the trial should commence and be expedited as there was prima facie evidence against the accused.

In a letter petition to the Administrative Judge of the High Court on November 9, an advocate said the SC being concerned about the criminalisation of politics had directed that the criminal cases against politicians should be fast tracked but that it had not happened in Goa at least in the Panjim Police Station attack case
