PANJIM: Panjim was without lights Thursday evening after one of the underground cables supplying electricity to the capital was damaged, probably by some miscreants, sources in the Electricity Department said.
The capital city gets power from two underground cables and two surface cables.
This damaged cable ~ some 8kms long ~ and supplying electricity from Kadamba Plateau saw the Department shift the load to the other lines. However, to the department’s misfortune one of the overhead cables some 150 mts in length fell in water plunging half the city in darkness, coincidently at the spot the recent double murder occurred.
However, at around 8.30 pm around 80 per cent of the electricity was restored and efforts were on to light up the rest the city. Power was finally restored by about 10 pm.
