PANJIM: After Carnival, the annual Shigmo float parade will be also held on the traditional route along 18 June Road in Panjim on March 14.
In wake of Model Code of Conduct, the festivity will conclude latest by 10 pm.
The Panjim Shigmotsav Committee, under chairmanship of Shrinivas Dempo, held its meeting, on Wednesday, which was also attended by Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate and Mayor Uday Madkaikar.
With Model Code of Conduct in place owing to the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, the Shigmotsav Committee has sought permission from the Goa State Election Commission (SEC) for holding the float parade. The committee has decided that the parade will start at 4.30 pm and culminate at Azad Maidan, latest by 10 pm.
Addressing media persons post meeting, Dempo said the annual float parade will be held on March 14 on its traditional route along 18 June road.
“The total estimated budget is Rs 27 lakh, of which Rs 21 lakh is provided by Tourism Department, while the balance would be raised through sponsorship,” he said.
The committee has decided that no spot entries would be allowed on March 14. Also, the forms will be available in Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) from Thursday.
Mayor Uday Madkaikar said the committee will approach government to declare the 18 June Road as permanent route for Shigmo float parade.
