The price of the State’s traditional ‘pao’ or bread, presently sold at Rs 3 a loaf, is likely to increase as bakers say they are unable to cope with the increasing costs of production.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Parsekar said, “I feel from Rs 3 to Rs 5 is a bit too much but I will hold a meeting with the bakers association and see what their demands are.”
He added, “Frankly speaking I do not know what their demands are but I can say I will look into the matter seriously.”
Traditional bakers say the government’s scheme to bakers launched by former chief minister Manohar Parrikar has become redundant.
