PANJIM/MARGAO: All Goa Association of Bakers, based in Panjim has clarified that they were not party to the recent controversy of bread price rise in Goa.
Association president Agapito Menezes, in a press release issued in the capital, said, some individuals, acting in the name of All Goa Bakers Association are creating a misunderstanding in this regard.
“This is to clarify that there has been no decision taken to increase the rate of ‘Pao’ from our side,” he said.
Menezes further said that a decision will be taken on October 9, at Margao, in a meeting of their members after the Mass at Grace Church at 10 am, to celebrate the annual International Bread Day.
The traditional bakers in Goa are divided in two different organisations namely All Goa Association of Bakers headed by Agapito Menezes and the All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association headed by Peter Fernandes.
The All Goa Association of Bakers was established long back and has around 300 registered members and they celebrate the International Bakers Day on October 9, while the All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association celebrate it on October 2 even though the International Bakers Day is on October 8.
All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association is more recent organisation of bakers and many of its members continue to be members of the All Goa Association of Bakers. Peter Fernandes, the president of All Goa Bakers
and Confectioners Association, continues to be a member of the All Goa Association of Bakers.
All Goa Association of Bakers were never party to the decision to increase the price of bread by Re. 1 and the hike was announced by Peter Fernandes of All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association who has now also announced the hike withdrawal.
